Does anyone here know why people new to incubating are float testing eggs on day 21 of incubation?

Because they are finding a bunch of Youtube videos telling them it is how to tell if the chicks are still alive. It should be illegal to post such harmful advice.

I would get rid of that old stuff.
Rip out anything you really want to keep and burn the rest.

we're fire bugs around here. Burning something wouldn't be weird at all.
