Home from the beach! I found this in a tide pool -- it looks like some kind of tooth:

Here it is on my thumbnail:

So... any idea? Shark tooth? Some other fishy's tooth?
@CarpCharacin, did you lose a tooth in the ocean?

Here’s the quail if anyone wants to see it. It looks so horrible 😂🤣 I don’t even know if I even got all the skin off 😂 and idk what that red stuff inside is? Wouldn’t come off. And I think there’s some ribs or part of the spine or something in there? Idk. It was so sharp when I tried to open it haha
What the fudge? It's tiny! The most horrifying finger puppet that I have ever seen.

We left the beach cause it was way colder than yesterday and the sun kept going away 😂🤣 plus the water was FREEZING.

We were gonna go to a pond to swim instead but now it’s cooled down a lot and the sun’s still not back so we’re not sure what we’re gonna do now haha we’re almost back over the bridge.

I almost left some stuff in a couple times but I’m OCD so I kept noticing all the stuff I missed and going back 😂🤣 I didn’t even realize the lungs were lungs at first 😂🤣 they’re so weird looking. And my shears sucked. I also forgot to cut the wings, legs, and vent off before trying to skin and had to do it after starting so that probably contributed to the difficulty too hahah

Thanks!! I’ll have to watch it! I watched one yesterday and it looked so easy but it was not. I also wasn’t sure what was skin and not 😂🤣

I think I will scald next time. Skinning was not faster and easier for me. It was super annoying. But maybe it takes time
I skinned the young cockerels I processed today. I don't usually do that, but I hadn't planned to process and didn't have hot water ready. After cutting off the head, I cut the 1st & 2nd joints of the wings off, then the scaly half of the legs. Bend them backwards until you see a hollowed or indented place in the joint. That's where you cut. It doesn't really matter if you hit it perfectly though, since the bones are small enough to cut through. Cut off the tail.

I didn't spatchcock. Lay or hold the bird with the breast upwards. Cut the skin along the keel/breast-bone from head to tail. Peel it off as if you were removing a jacket. It might stick at the ends of the thighs but otherwise it should come off fairly easy. Take out the organs, rinse & refrigerate, covered loosely with a clean kitchen towel until rigor mortis passes. Or cook immediately.

Go get ice cream at the gas station.

I think you did just fine, especially since it's your first time. Not that I'm against plucking, mind. I like the skin on.
