:lau right!? So small. Although I have a feeling it’s smaller than even my other quail being weak. I’m hoping the males are bigger.
They are not.
The males are almost always smaller than the females.

I skinned the young cockerels I processed today. I don't usually do that, but I hadn't planned to process and didn't have hot water ready. After cutting off the head, I cut the 1st & 2nd joints of the wings off, then the scaly half of the legs. Bend them backwards until you see a hollowed or indented place in the joint. That's where you cut. It doesn't really matter if you hit it perfectly though, since the bones are small enough to cut through. Cut off the tail.

I didn't spatchcock. Lay or hold the bird with the breast upwards. Cut the skin along the keel/breast-bone from head to tail. Peel it off as if you were removing a jacket. It might stick at the ends of the thighs but otherwise it should come off fairly easy. Take out the organs, rinse & refrigerate, covered loosely with a clean kitchen towel until rigor mortis passes. Or cook immediately.
This is very helpful! Thanks! Wait... so was I supposed to cut out the breast bone not the spine or???
Go get ice cream at the gas station.
😂🤣😂 I got ice cream but from the grocery store instead. We went to get subs and eat them at the pond and when you mentioned ice cream, I decided I wanted some 😂🤣🙈

We’re gonna swim in a sec since we’re done eating. The pond is way nicer than I thought it’d be haha
I think you did just fine, especially since it's your first time. Not that I'm against plucking, mind. I like the skin on.
Thank you :love

Don't get any brain-eating amoeba.
Did you tell them about Dan?

Cutting out the spine so the carcass can lay flat is called spatchcocking. Cindy was saying that she did not spatchcock and therefore made an incision along the keel so she could start peeling the skin. I am sure both methods work well, but actually cutting out the keel is not necessary (or recommended) in either case.

Bummer :(

Well maybe they’d still have more anyway since she was sooooo small and sickly???

I really think she was sick not just injured because she was still not improving at all and kept falling and balancing with her wings and stuff like the other birds. Although her one toe did look kinda weird so

I made it back though so.

And YES!!! I did!!! Well, my one friend at least.

I told her about how you said to go there to get ice cream then told her the story of him lol

Thanks!!! Mine wouldn’t lay flat for some reason even taking the spine out? I don’t think I did it right haha
