The one I had was never a pet. The only time she could be handled was when she was broody. She did submit to the roosters but only if she wanted to. The rest of the time she put them in their place. She was a cross between a Red Laced White Cornish and a Light Brahma. She had a broad back.

Mutts are the best!

Mine doesn't like to be handled (none of mine do). She will come and beg for a handout. But past that.... sounds much the same.

By 'pet' I mean I'd actually spend money to save her or treat her. I hate raising chicks. She makes my life much simpler.

How long did she live?

I hatched her in 2013. I put her out at night to break her from being broody one too many times and a raccoon got her in the fall of 2018.

When she first started laying, she laid an egg a day for 27 straight days before all the broodiness started.
