⭐ Kiki's Year Long 🌶️

I'm not frozen yet.
No power.
Water is good.
Internet and cell service is shitty.

Glad you're not froze. Been thinking of you. We got above freezing (34°) for maybe an hour today. I know it's not the same, though. Hope they get the solar panels and windmills deiced soon for ya'll. We have some, but it's just ugly jewelry to us. We don't have to count on it.

Cindy! How have you been? :hugs

Hi to everyone in Texas. From the news reports I hear, things sound bad there. Living in Ontario, Canada, what is freak weather for you is usual for us. That means we are more prepared but in your case you have no reason to have the resources we do. Toronto got laughed at a few years ago because they couldn't handle a big snow fall. Strange weather patterns are no laughing matter.
Please stay safe and be careful. I never notice how much electricity I use until I don't have it.

Dessert for dinner tonight.

baby book worthy!

Grew off gorgeous!
Not sure how it works with city waterlines, but we don't flush the toilets when the power goes out. It empties out the pipes pretty much all the way, and it can be nice to have a few cups of clean water in the faucets.
Just a quick tidbit. Again, not sure how it works with city stuff. We have a well.
With a well, no electricity means no water without a generator.

we have a well, electric pump. When power problems are predicted, we fill bathtub and use that water to flush toilet
I used to fill a bunch of 5 gallon buckets.
We're on well water, so when the power goes out we hook the generator up to the well pump panel if we need water.
yes, yes, yes.
And always fill the stock tanks in the barn for extra water for the animals/chickens.

They said they get tigers there from time to time. They don't have one there right now though :hmm
That's probably a good thing though. Rosie would try to attack it.
Must be some other animal from the zoo, animal refuge, etc.

It's 49° here; sorry for all of you who are getting snow and blackouts. Please stay safe. ❤️

Sage had kits last night, her first litter and all in the nest box!

She is mixed, her mom is a mixed Flemish Giant and New Zealand Red, her dad is pure Rex. I bred her to a pure Rex so statistically half the kits should have Rex fur and half should have normal fur. They will grow a decent amount of fur within a week, eyes should open after day 10 or so. I'm excited to see how they grow.
Am I counting 8 kits? How big is your pretty Sage?

I feel for Texans and everyone suffering this unusual frigid weather. It's challenging for those of us prepared for it, unbearable for many of you!

Unsolicited advice: If you own any wool or silk clothes, wear them. They are excellent insulators. (Surround yourself with your chickens, too!) And beware of black ice, which looks like water. No rubber boots or four wheel drive vehicles are a match for ice. Just go slooooow if you have to go out at all. Hope you're all safe.
