I'm sure I would have had time to put down something before it finished with me. I'm a nummy treat to mosquitos. They will ignore everyone around me and not only feast on me, but call all of their buddies to come feast too. I always have insect repellent handy. It got away. They have to be pretty thick before they start on me. I do always wear long sleeve shirts to alleviate the problem. Lucky you. I was at an SCA event once and I wore knee high boots for the entire day, and long sleeves, etc. I took the boots off two hours before I left. When I got home, I had over 60 bites on each leg from the knee down. They have to be pretty thick before they start on me. I do always wear long sleeve shirts to alleviate the problem.
