Ducks
Pros:
adorable, funny, comical, strange (strange is good), friendly
Cons: messy, loud, loud hens

Chickens
Pros: lays eggs, quiet, friendly, adorable, fluffy
Cons: loud roosters

It's my first time ever getting poultry, and I don't know what to get! I want Silkies, d'Uccles, Sultans, and Cochins (all bantams, as you can tell), but at the same time I want Khaki Campbells, White Crested Pekins, Buffs, Welsh Harlequins, and Blue Swedish! Help!
When I think I know what to get, I always lean toward something else the next day! It's been weeks since I filled out my address and everything on Idealpoultry.com. I call my mom over for the money stuff and everything, and then I think about ducks! So I change my mind, and then I want chickens! I can't go on like this forever!

freedom is to get both... ;)

With ducks if you have too many drakes it could be a disaster for the hens (drowning and all).
With chickens if the males get along you are fine.

Some of the ducks you mention are huge. Everyone mistakes my blue swedish for geese.

There are duck species that are not messy or loud.

That's cool; thanks! :)
