Hi, all! Scanning through and happy not to see anyone reporting cases of H5N1 in their guineas! I did some digging around, and the only reported case I've found in the US for goons was at a live market in NY in 2022. NY cont. to have issues at live markets, but not in guinea. Authorities cite "horrific conditions" and poor sanitation/cleaning as the cause.
Testing in Ghana in '23 showed higher antibodies in adult guinea compared to growers, birds from slaughter points and live markets much higher than households. The report went on to suggest guinea in Ghana contribute to transmission there.
I'm curious of @Mixed flock enthusiast opinion re significance of a test in only one region, & 397 guinea tested. I didn't see any mention of deaths.
It does acknowledge "they are resistant to most poultry diseases at the adult stage." See, I'd argue that accessing LIVE birds with antibodies shows a superiority to be celebrated rather than scapegoated.
Anyway, keep doing what you're doing and stay away from live markets!
