šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø Iā€™m in need of advice on how to care for a lone duckling! šŸ£

Hi!

The eggs I was incubating already had homes waiting. šŸ˜¢
Unfortunately we canā€™t have anymore ducks.
We currently have 3 females for each of our 2 drakes and a pair of rescued Pekins that we got at about 5 months.
I would get the 3 more in a second, but not knowing the sex could potentially lead to problems.
We donā€™t want a hide flock and we already have 10, and little Stella was thought to be a Muscovy, and really surprised us!! šŸ„°
Anyway, Stella is doing great and receives tons of love and attention!
My mother, who lives with us absolutely adores her and Stella sits on her wee wee pads snuggling with my mom all day!
Sheā€™s currently 19 days old and has a large puppy playpen as her grow out brooder filled with toys, stuffed animals and mirrors!
But Iā€™m concerned about how sheā€™s going to do when itā€™s time to introduce her to the flock!
Iā€™m going to have to do a ton of research because she has no idea that sheā€™s a duck!
We take her outside to watch the flock, but we donā€™t allow her to interact with them yet seeing that sheā€™s still much to young.
My daughter wants her to be in ā€œindoor duckā€ permanently and wear a diaper, and Iā€™m actually considering it, but ducks are VERY messy and Iā€™m OCD about keeping my house clean. Lol!
Iā€™m just taking it day by day right now. šŸ„°

Thank you very much for your reply!
Kindly, šŸ’•
Amy
Ok, that makes a lot more sense. Iā€™m not a duck person, as I just have chickens, but I know all animals get lonely by themselves. She can probably go outside full time when she has more feathers and is able to stand up to the other ducks a bit. She does look very happy in the photos, but I donā€™t think a full-time inside life would be good for her. From what Iā€™ve heard, ducks are very messyā€¦

Taking her out with you to meet the flock is a great idea. And when you want to put her out there full time, you should put her in a separate area at first, if possible, so they all can get used to each other without fighting and possibly getting hurt.

Best of luck to you and little Stella!
Abby
