We're officially 4 days into the incubator with a brand-new batch of eggs I picked up from eBay — yep, I’m rolling the dice, and honestly... I’m feeling pretty lucky so far.
Here’s what’s in the incubator:
14 Silver & Blue Swedish Pekin Crested Ducks 14 Silver & Blue Swedish Pekin Crested Ducks
18 Mallard Ducks (well, 17 now — had one casualty in shipping) 18 Mallard Ducks (well, 17 now — had one casualty in shipping)
7 Bourbon Red Turkey Eggs 7 Bourbon Red Turkey Eggs
6 Mandarin Ducks 6 Mandarin Ducks
And if all goes well tonight... I’ll be adding a dozen Dutch Hookbill duck eggs to the lineup. That’s right — the party's not over yet!
 Candling Report – Day 4:
Candling Report – Day 4:- Silver & Blue Swedish Pekins – Looking ! Strong development, clear veining — these little fluffballs are off to a great start. ! Strong development, clear veining — these little fluffballs are off to a great start.
- Mallards – Decent signs so far. Some promising veins, a couple slow starters, but they’re in the game.
- Mandarins – Not giving me much yet. Still early, but they’re being mysterious. Fingers crossed.
- Bourbon Reds – Super hard to read. Thick shells and darker eggs = mystery babies. Hoping they’re just shy and not ghosting me.
This is my first time hatching this many breeds at once, so I’m learning as I go — humidity tweaks, turning schedules, and trying not to check the incubator 37 times a day.

Got tips for candling tricky eggs (especially turkey or mandarin duck)? Let me know — I’m all ears and flashlight-ready.
I’ll be posting candling pictures and my setup in a few days, so stay tuned for the glow-up!
I’ll update again as we get closer to lockdown!
