Hi Everyone. I'm brand new to BYC. I brought home 3 baby chicks 9 days ago. One of them ('Velvet' who is a Mottled Java) has had diarrhea and doesn't seem to be growing like her 2 sisters. She is eating non-stop and otherwise active and well. She has had pasty butt which I've been cleaning the past few days but that may be because the diarrhea is sticking to her vent/fluffy hair. I would like to treat her/them with Corid for Coccidiosis. Unless you all think that there could be another reason for the diarrhea and slow/no growth. Please let me know! Thank you.

Welcome To BYC

Can you post some photos of all of her and a comparison to the others as well?
What breed are the others?
Where did you get the chicks?

The poop looks fairly normal to me. Does your chick seem to be a bit more "colder" than the others staying under the heat a little more?

Active, eating/drinking...I think she is probably fine. Mottled Javas according to a quick search - looks like they are a slower growing breed, so comparing her to other breeds would not be practical.

Hi Wyorp Rock! Thanks for the reply. I'm attaching a photo of the 3 of them. The brown one (Comet) is a Speckled Sussex. She and the Java (pictured...sweet yellow with black markings) were the same size when I brought them home! Then the black one (Olive) is an Olive Egger. She was the smallest and now is larger than the Java.

The chicks are from a local hatchery/farm here in Southern California. I picked them up (they were not shipped).

Velvet doesn't seem any colder they all seem comfortable with the temperature and move around the entire brooder.

I guess I am comparing her runny poo against the other 2 who have nicely formed/shaped poo.

Cute chicks!

The other 2 breeds are a bit faster growing than Mottled Javas.
Since she's active, then I would just keep watch on her. It wouldn't hurt to give her a 2-3 drops of poultry vitamins a couple of times a day for a few days.
The poop look fairly normal to me.
Since she's not feathered out quite as fast as the others, you may find that she needs heat for a little longer than they do.

They are all drinking water with probiotic & electrolytes right now. Should I give her vitamins on top of that?
