1.5 year old hen with sudden onset ataxia

Hay can become moldy, and can also cause crop disorders. I would probably avoid that in the future.
Good to know. I thought I had read they could have some, and I have chinchillas so I gave the chickens some of their hay. I’ll avoid that in the future!

After just a dose of poultry cell this morning, she seems a bit better? I had to leave the house for a bit and picked up supplements while I was out. Came home and she ate some and is trying to get around. Thank you to everyone who gave advice!

This must have been a vitamin e deficiency, because she’s almost 100% normal this morning! She even laid an egg and is preening. I’ll probably put her back out with the flock later today. I may add some Poultry Cell to their water to try to make sure no one else is affected.

Good to hear. Thanks for the update. You may not want to use Poultry Cell for more than 2-3 days since it can cause diarrhea. If you get some human super B complex tablets, dosage is 1/4 tablet daily, that might be helpful for a week or two. It can be crushed and added to some moistened chicken feed or egg. This is a good buy and you can get twice as many for a couple of dollars more:

I’m curious about how this beautiful hen is doing now, did the vitamins clear up the ataxia?
She’s totally back to normal. I recently read that morning glory seeds can cause neurologic symptoms, and there is morning glory all over my yard. So not sure if it was truly a deficiency or if it was the morning glory, but she’s doing great! I’m trying to get rid of the morning glory but it has been a never ending fight!
