Hello All,
As the title says, I have a little 1.5 week old chick who has developed pasty bottom (or whatever it is technically called). Several times today I washed her up and got her, and her sister with the same issue, cleaned up and for many hours now they have remained "unpasty" :) That is good news. Oh, and they seem to be eating and drinking fine, playing with the other chicks, and acting otherwise normal. So, that is good news, too. But the one chick is still "screaming" when she goes to the bathroom. Doesn't seem to do it everytime but is definitely still in pain at least some of the time.

I should probably tell you that her vent (both of them, actually- I've noticed this from the get-go and figured it was just their breed- French Copper Marans) is somewhat protruding. More so than our other chicks and seems to pooch out even more when they cheep. Also, after gently cleaning their bottoms with warm, wet paper towel and some running water, we gave each of them a drop or two of olive oil mixed in water and put some oil on their vents in hopes of that helping.

We have to be gone all day tomorrow and I'm concerned about leaving her/them like this. Especially with the screaming business. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Do I need to cancel and stay home to Chicksit?? I'd appreciate any insight you all have.

Thanks!

Mac

I really ought to have previewed that message better before submitting. Sorry for the random nature of the paragraphs. I didn't give them oil to help their protruding vents, but, rather, to help their pasty bottom syndrome. Sorry for that and for the other oddly arranged thoughts :)
