Hello, I have been reading BYC for a few months. 8 pullets were gifted to me along with a nifty roost house enclosed by a roofed pen. I put it inside a carport attached to my garden house. Since then I have fallen in love with chickens. Currently down to 3 as I have lost 1 to raccoon, 1 to neighbor's dog, 3 to botulism: cats shared their partially eaten mole, gopher, mouse unbeknownst to me.
One of my sick chicks took a trip to the nearest vet. A small boy sitting with grandpa and a puppy, looked into my cage and said, "Grandpa, I have never seen a chicken at the vet's." Neither had the vet. No Avian vet near me.
Continually, I am amazed at the alertness, attention & memory of my girls. I would love to have more than the 3, but the possibility of loosing one is heavy. I have 8 cats, 3 dogs, and 3 chickens. That's enough mouths to feed.
