I have 1 chick from my 3, the other 2 I think I lost, still in bator going to water test later. My problem is with the chick that hatched. It is only happy if I am with it, it will peep til I come in and talk to it, and wants to be in my hand. It is drinking, n eating a little. Will it give up if the others don't hatch and it is alone, n what if I hold it?

Give it a mirror so it can see 'other' chicks! Also a stuffed animal to snuggle with..! Maybe try and find a few chicks within a week or 2 of his age and get a few so it will be easier on the both of you and he will get attached the them and not you! Good luck, He should be fine though.

I agree,we had that problem and believe me it is a problem having just one. They imprint on you and it is very hard to put them in with other chickens,it took us a couple months to do this gradually so she wouldn`t be tramatized,we had to teach her everthing that the mom would have taught her. Her name is Jadee and she is a silkie. Her outside with dh

We ended up having to move the fish tank out to the silkie coop untill she stopped being afraid of the other silkies, she thought she was human and was so scared of the other chickens,it was so sad. Its hard to see her in there but she is.She stayed in there for three weeks or more.

What a cutie. Feather duster is a great idea! One of our hens hatched just one chick last summer; we think the heat at the time killed the others. Worked out well though cause those two bonded like nothing I've ever seen before. Wishbone taught her baby everything she could think of and then some, when it came time for Chloe to fledge, she really didn't,Wishbone continued to watch out for her as she grew into an adult, and those two STILL hang out together a lot of the time, though Chloe has gotten a lot more independent. We know she will do well when she goes outside this spring to free range.
