This little one hatched yesterday. I put it in the brooder today and it somehow got it's little foot stuck in the holes at the bottom (even though they are on paper towels) and now it's all twisted and purple... What can I do to help it?

I am so sorry about your little baby. I am not sure there is much you can do. You could try, if is not too painful for the baby, to splint it up. You could fashion something out of metal or wire or something to make an "L" shape and tape it to it's foot. I have never had to do such a thing, however maybe it would work?? The break may be too much for such a small baby, I really don't know. Again, so sorry.

That looks like way too many toes for one foot ?? And likely a very bad fracture at the ankle--possibly a toe (unless that is just bent?)--probably very painful and I doubt this chick will be able to stand. I have splinted broken toes before but this is way beyond a normal chick injury. I, myself, would make the decision to get an avian specialist to correctly and professionally splint the bird in the next 12 hours (or an experienced farmer/farm vet) or end its suffering. Letting this situation wait is not going to help--please don't let it suffer.

Sorry that this happened to your chick. These things just happen sometimes, and they are tragic and sad. Maybe you can put a mesh wire screen down covering the large holes so this doesn't happen again.

Someone posted a photo here once of a homemade splint he made that worked just fine. Maybe you can find it if you type splint in the search function

So sorry for you and your chick.

the poor thing died.

Idk if it died from the pain, or if it was just weak to start with... I had to help it out of it's egg it couldn't turn around enough on its own.
