I'm fairly certain nothing can be done for this baby but I promised my 6 year old I would try. This chick hatched this morning and we've watched it throughout the day. It does not have it's eyes open and doesn't stand much. I could tell something wasn't right but we left it in the box with mom. My 6 year old went out to check on it one last time before bed and brought it in the house crying asking me to save it :( It's breathing, it occasionally chirps and tries to stand. It appears to have a swollen stomach and possibly a hernia, not sure. It was bleeding when he found it so I assume mom was pecking at it. Any advice before we put it down?

its an unabsorbed yolk sack and it really dont look too bad. if you want to try then take a washcloth and roll it up then tape the ends together to make a donut shape. keep it upright and give it some warm sugar water. there are other things to use like sav-a-chick , some electrolytes ,ect.... good luck with it.

Thank you! I realized what it was after I read a little more. LOL! We've had chickens for 5 years so you would think I might know that

We've never hatched many and this is the first one to have issues. I hope it makes it.

wouldnt hurt to put some antibiotic ointment on it. will help some just dont use the pain reliever kinds. the (cain) are toxic.
