Something's not right here. Yes, the girls are on their second year, but still... I should be getting more eggs then this! So... as I'm cleaning up the pen and nesting areas today, I notice a lone egg sitting on the ground on one end of the coop.

Hmm... that's odd...

So, I bend down, and pick it up. Then it hits me.

I look underneath... and what do I find?

TWENTY- FREAKIN- FIVE! Oh, it filled my basket alright. We did the water test to see which eggs would float... but they were all staying near the bottom which doesn't make much sense, since there were at least a few week old eggs down there.

all my girls (3) started laying again this week 2 eggs a day from 3 hens if you do the math and yours just started laying again the eggs aren't very old seeing that you have 10 hens and 25 eggs. and only 1 is laying in the nest.

I read in a homesteading book that you can tell how old an egg is by candling and measuring the air pocket, the egg dries out as it ages so the older it is the larger the pocket is, I don't remember how much it shrinks with each day, but you can compare it to eggs in your fridge.

I am surprised you don't have a broody sitting on them! that is a lot of eggs to be hiding.

I said the same thing! Especially since my hen has set 3 times in the past 2 years!
