1 egg a day from 10 hens...?

Quote:
all my girls (3) started laying again this week 2 eggs a day from 3 hens if you do the math and yours just started laying again the eggs aren't very old seeing that you have 10 hens and 25 eggs. and only 1 is laying in the nest.

True, I guess I just thought they were slowing down bc it was their second year. My girls generally don't lay 9 eggs a day though. I'll get about 6-8 when it's warm and 2-5 when it's cold.

even if they have only been laying 5 in the nest a day they are still only 5 days old, I don't know what part of the country your in, but it sure isn't heat thats going to make them spoil unless your in australia, eggs can last months, so I wouldn't worry.

^ Hey heat doesn't make them spoil in 5 days here!

It's just that sometimes your incubator is colder than outside.

My girls pulled a similar thing. They went from 14-16 a day down to 8-9 & I just figured it was the cold weather/ shorter days. I've got a mix of younger hens as well as some that are over two. We found their "secret" nest when we got ready to take another round bale of hay to the horses. Tucked in the curve between 2 bales in the hay shed were a carefully made nest w/ 22 eggs! I'm guessing none were very old, but it was during the very cold snap when night temps were dropping to single digits, so the chooks & dogs got scrambled eggs for treats. One of the fun things with free ranging! '

What a waste. Mine weren't happy either. One hen kept pacing back and forth on the other side of the fence trying to get to her nest. Poor girl has never had much common sense though.
