With one chick, you need to devote major amounts of your time to it so it can mature socially.

I would certainly consider a friend for him. If that baby hatches, it's gonna peep it's itself to death looking for the other chicks that it knows should be there. Place a small stuffed animal or other softie and a small mirror in your brooder until you can find a chick a friend. Good luck.
