One of my broody hens had smashed an egg under her somehow and I didn't discover it until the rest of the eggs were a nasty mess, covered with dried egg. How can I safely clean them? I'm scared it will grow bacteria or block respiration.
I had this happen once and I washed them in very warm water with a cap full of Oxine. I stuck them in the incubator (the incident broke the broody up) and they hatched just fine. Very warm water and a mild disinfectant should work - I wouldn't use soap. Make sure the water is warmer than the eggs.
Great! Thanks - I've been worried about it. I couldn't remember what temperature water, if it would hurt hatching eggs, and if I needed to add anything.
