I have a month old buff Orpington who along with her roomies gets daily field trips outside for a few hours still to cold to leave out all night (I don’t want to wire the coop for lighting). But today after awhile I noticed she was limping and favoring her left foot. A closer look showed some discoloring (bruising) around her middle toe close the foot not the end of the toe but otherwise seems fine no redness or broken skin, and not crooked. Should I be worried?

I have hens come up lame from time to time, and usually they recover quickly on their own. It is important to check for cuts and swelling on the bottom side of the foot as well. Hope she gets better soon.

Thank you I did check the bottom first but no signs of any issues there. I only noticed the bruising after the second look. I’m sure she’ll be fine, it’s been many moons since I’ve owned chickens and want to be sure I’m not neglecting my little babies
