Hello I am new to chickens as of spring.I have 4 hens that will be laying soon. 3 golden comets and 1 RIR.

I got my first egg on monday. No egg on tuesday, and 2 eggs today. I check my boxes when I feed in the mornings.

Today 1 egg was in a nest box on the bottom as was the egg I found on monday. 1 egg was in the top nest box.

Since I work second shift and dont want to wake the neighbors when I come home. I can only check the boxes before leaving for work. Do you guys think all 3 eggs were from the same hen or do I have 2 laying?

Sorry if this is a crazy question. Keep in mind that I am a newbie.
Thanks guys

You probably have 2 laying, but it is hard to know unless you see them (or mark their vents with food coloring). They only way you'll know is if you collect at the same time faithfully and get more than 2 eggs in a 24 hour period.

Hens lay about 25 to 26 hours apart, so that means the hen lays later in the day each time. So if you fail to get an egg in the morning, you could have one in the afternoon. If your gathering time staggers at all, then it would make it hard to figure out who is laying.
