1 roo to 3 hens ratio?

I'd say get the 2 roos, and then pick which will be the one to keep... Siince you will be getting as chicks, they'll get along for a while, but then you will have one become the dominant roo... SO, when they hit about 6 months or so, then would be the time to pick the one you want to keep and freezer camp the other, or rehome him. I have 12. 2 for my silkie roo, 2 for my bantam mutt, and 8 for my big guy. The silkies and the mutts are young enough yet to not be a problem for my big roo. But come spring, they'll be seperated out and into their own coops and pens.

Thats what I was gonna do, but chickened out becuz.i thought it was gonna hurt the hens.... And thank you!

but if you get two roos You NEED to pick one which can be hard or might be very easy..

Yeah, and he is pretty much just to watch over the girls...

This sounds like a very good excuse to justify getting more hens

For a young roo, even 6 hens is a bit lean.

Don't know where you heard that BR roosters are mean - from what I've read and experineced they are one of the more docile breeds. We have 3 BR Roosters and 24 BR pullets - raised together since day old and confined to a large airy indoor coop - the roosters don't 'fight' but there is a rooster 'pecking order' of sorts. I think it helps that they were all raised together. We've never had a BR rooster 'go off' on us. Knock on wood! Agree with the others that one rooster w/6 hens is plenty.

I asked my mom if I could get them for my birthday, and she said no more then 4

and I dont want a rooster if I can only get 4 chicks. Oh well...
