This will be my last update.
Many sad things happened for the last 2 weeks.
Firstly, a fox breaks to my garden around 5:30 am and killed one of my chicken and the mother rabbit, injured the mother rabbit’s roommate (she is recovering well but she has lost her friend forever). I heard the scream noise of the fox and rushed to the garden, the chicken was taken by the fox and the rabbit was too heavy to carry and was left behind.
I know there are many foxes in my area, but this is the first time the fox does the kill in my garden for the past 5 years. Know the fox knows there are food here. This means I cannot “free range” my chickens and rabbits anymore, which is my inconvenience for me and I feel sorry for the animals that they can’t get enough freedom.
Secondly, it is very sad to announce that the baby rabbits didn’t go well for the last 2 weeks. On week 4, one of the baby rabbit developed diarrhoea and soon I found 5/8 has poor poo as well. Their health deteriorates very fast and 3 of the past away within a week, the remain 2 are still not very well. This is heartbreaking for me as I am so attached to them.
There are a 2 possibilities I can think of:
1. They are lacking the ability/right gut environment to digest the hay and the pellets.
2. They have coccidiosis.
The good news is that 3 of them are going great, they are big and active. They will be listing for sale next week. Hopefully I can find good homes for them.
A summary of what I did for hand raising them:
1. Cat milk replacement + goat milk + goat cream, test on lip make sure it is not too hot or cold
2. 1ml syringe + Mikki nibble
2. Twice a day, feed to the point their belly is round, help them to pee after the feed
3. Nature cotton with blanket on top to make a warm nest, (the those type of cotton which will tangle, room temp 25C+
4. Hang the water bottle and provide Meadow hay + Burgess excel junior rabbit food from week 3
5. Added Probiotics C and Flbreplex to help with the gut function
Thanks All
