Hey guys, I just bought 2 Rhode Island Reds today. I live here in Louisiana and was planning to put them outside in their new Coop. The Coop has 2 parts, a chicken run and an enclosed area that's out of the elements. The low tonight will be around 72ish. I put a bunch of shavings on the inside/enclosed part of the Coop. Do u think the weather would be too cold for them or will they be OK? It's pretty humid outside. I'll post some pics of them and the set up they will stay housed in.

1 week olds should still have access to heat at night in those temperatures.
Yes ma'am. I have everything set up for them inside a large secure dog kennel. Got the broader ready. Thanks so much. I imagine they should be ready to go out in their Coop in about 5 weeks?

Oh they can be in the coop right now, as long as there's some sort of heat source (i.e. heat plate/pad) that they can use when they want, and get away from when they don't want.

If you're using a heat lamp, then you could have them out in the coop during the day and bring them back to their brooder at night. With the size of the coop I would not recommend using the heat lamp in it for fire safety reasons.

Given your temperatures they can fully come off heat at 2-3 weeks or so.

it might help if you had a few more chicks because they can keep each other warm
My wife would kill me. I have 2 broody hens so I decided to buy these babies from the feed store in attempts to putting them under the hens. It worked for about 3 hours with 1 hen feeding the babies but I had to move them to the small coop because my nesting boxes were all blocked up. When I did the move it seemed momma started making an intruder sound. She wasn't hurting or attacking the babies but she was trying to get away from them. Needless to say, they are separated now.
