As a renewed chicken person after 40 years I now have had my flock for 5 days...they are a week old today. That being said I want to give some observations so far...my peeps consist of: 4 RIR including 1 roo...3 Black Star, 3 Blue Star and 3 BR. So far my observations are: Barred Rocks are way more labor intensive than the others, they have had pasty butt constantly where only 1 of the RIR had it once...No pasty for the Black Star or Blue Star as of yet...The RIR and Blue Star seem to be maturing more quickly than the Black Star/Barred Rock for some reason but I'm sure they will catch up. They all absolutely love our treats! Which is just their feed that I wet and make into a goo...but they all dive in like it is their last meal! LOL

One thing that they all have in common is they make a mess!! And in short order!! They have really taken a liking to their jungle jim toy I made for them and seem to take turns getting on it...pretty comical to watch!! Also it does appear that I am going to have to keep the lid zipped on my brooder very soon as they are already eyeing their escape over the top. Thanks for all the help and encouragement that everyone on here has given me on my short journey....Here are a couple pics of my little bundles of fluff...

Super cute! Your brooder setup is adorable.

We've been having a ton of fun with our RIRs (1 of which had pasty butt pretty bad for a few days) and Barred Rocks (only 1 with pasty butt, she sadly passed). Good luck on your journey!!
