I have a one year old buff cochin that has been laying shelless egss for the past 2-3 weeks. I haven't seen a normal egg from her in this time. She is eating 18% layer feed and has access to both oyster shell and broken egg shells. I have put ACV in her water. What is causing this and what can I do about it? Before this she was laying normal eggs, just not very often (2-4 a week). She is our favorite hen out of the 6 layers we have and I really would like to be able to keep her but she has to "earn" her way!

Hi, I'm not much help really. I have a Buff Orp hen, same age, same problem- and she eats hers....I've seen my other hens peck at their eggs, trying to break them. So, I separated the BO. I think she's got to go. I really like her.

My birds get pasture everyday and I supplement crumbles with kelp and oyster shell. I think she just doesn't work right. I've had her 4 months only got 3 eggs.... All my other girls lay eggs as hard as rocks.
