Hello, this is my first post on Backyard chickens!! I have been an avid reader of the site since I started my flock 2 years ago. I love the site, the knowledge available from so many experienced chicken owners is incredible. God bless and thank you to all that help people like me (not a farmer!) for sharing your wealth of knowledge to be a great chicken flock owner. That being said........

I have a 1 year old bantam English rooster that has a red inflamed area on his left leg and yesterday I noticed he was favoring it. My Husband insisted he was not limping, but the rooster is definitely protecting it. Today he is hopping. He is still dancing and digging. Upon examination, because I can hold him, I noticed red dots on both feathered legs and what appears to me looking like a infected feather sheath? Should I pull that feather out?? I have included pictures for help. He is acting totally normal and still dancing for the ladies. I have three bantam hens as well. Any help anyone can provide me is greatly appreciated.

Roosters will get a flush of red up their legs during peak breeding season. I think that's what you are seeing. Just keep an eye on it to see if it worsens. That's what I would do.

Thank you for the response! He was limping/hopping on it, but once he was running around, he stopped limping. I was not aware of red legs during mating season. Thank you!
