Hi!

I hatched 2 call ducks and 2 buff ducks in July. They’re almost 8w old and today I picked each one up separately and the only one to really “QUACK” was one of the call ducks. I’m concerned the other 3 are drakes. If this is the case, do I need to rehome the buff drakes? I’m worried they will hurt the little female.

If not, I imagine I would need to separate them at least, which I have no idea how to do.

If I need to separate/rehome, would I need to get more friends for the remainders?

They’ve been together their whole lives so far without incident.

I'd probably eventually separate the calls from the buffs. They can be penned next to each other. You can make better decisions once you know for sure on the sexes.

yes rehome the drake's or separate them

You will more than likely not have any issues with over mating until next spring. Then is when they will be old enough for problems to arrise should you have 3 males and one female. If you do not want eggs, you could possibly rehome the female and keep an all drake flock which works out well for some. If you want to keep them all you would need to find several more females for the three males. I have 4 males and 21 females in my flock. That way I have no overmating even though they can still pick their favorite female and not show any interest in the rest. Good luck with your decision.
