I lost my adult pyreneese about 6 weeks ago and got 2 new pups. They are 10 & 12 weeks old and were really after something a bit ago and the guineas were going nuts! I ran outside and the 2 pups had put themselfs between the turkeys and a stray dog who was in my yard and after my turkeys! These 2 pups are amazing and I am glad I was home because the stray was about 50 lbs and they could not have taken him. The dog got away because I ran out in a rush without a gun. My little female who is 10 weeks is going to be the boss! Its funny to watch her with the turkeys. I have breeding pens and some freerange extras. I have one penned breeding pair that the freerange toms love to try to fight through the pen. When they do, the 10 week female walks to the pen and puts herself between the freerangers and the penned tom. The turkeys try to walk to the other side of the pen and then she goes to the other side with them. Then they loose interest and walk off. I love a good LSG!

Wow, wonderful dogs already. You'll have perfect Gentle Giants in no time. Sweet story

Love this. It's amazing what a good dog can do, even without training.

Do you think a dog can be a good LGD without it being a typical LGD breed?

Of course there are exceptions to every rule, but generally speaking regular breeds of dogs have a prey drive and the LGDs do not. Most dogs react to livestock in a very negative manner when one is hurt, in a panic or running. They forget all of their training and chase whatever is running. The LDG breeds have been bred for hundred if not thousands (in the case of Anatolian shepherds) to NOT chase. They lack the prey drive that makes other breeds chase.
