so, we've integrated three 8 month old RIR hens into our young flock.
The other chicks are: 6 pullets almost 3 months, 2 Cornish Rocks about 3 months old, and 3 Barred rocks about 6 weeks old.
anyway, they are all getting along very well. So well, in fact that last night when I went to close the coop, 2 hens, all the pullets and all the Barred Rocks were in ONE nesting box !!
yep, 10 in total, 2 almost full grown !!! I couldn't believe it! they were 3 deep sitting all which-a-way !!!
the 3rd hen was in another box all by herself, so I put the 3 barred rocks with her. They snuggled up to her and were quite happy
We plan on changing the roost to a 2 x 4 hoping they will roost instead of sleep in the nesting boxes (thanks to everyone's suggestions here for the idea).
Just wanted to share my first chicken story !!!
