She is a RIR and has started this really loud chirping while she poops, started about 3 days ago. I checked her crop last night and it is fine, not impacted. I've been watching her poop, and at first she pooped fine with now problems except the chirping and the poop looks perfectly normal. I watched her this morning and she is struggling to get poop out of her, poop still looks normal. To me she chirps loudly because it hurts to go. What can I do for her ? Oh and she acts like a normal chick otherwise, looks great and as far as I know eating and drinking.

She has never had pasty butt, her butt is clean and vent looks good too, no redness or swelling nothing. Maybe she is just constipated ? It's like she is giving birth, it gets stuck and she has to keep working to get it out. Poop is a normal size and doesn't look hard.

No other syptoms but still the loud chirping and having hard time pooping. They have all been moved out to larger brooder in coop. I checked her yesterday and her vent looks yucky. Not red but looks pushed out. Not inside pushed out,

My 3 year old on my lap , I hit reply before I wanted too. Anyways chick still acts ok. Here are some pics. First one is of chick. Second pic is her vent before I washed it off. Third pic is after I ran her under some warm water. The only thing I know what too do is put some lubricant around vent. Does it look like it's swollen ?

Had this happen on my first batch of chicks, who were unfortunately all killed by a neighborhood dog. The chick acted like her vent was stretched out to the point she just couldn't push that last little bit to make it fall out. I would use a warm washcloth to pull it the rest of the way out and clean up the area. The poo didn't seem too hard but more solid than usual. Eventually it just got better as she grew. Looking back now that I'm a more experienced chicky mama, I believe I had the brooder too warm and the chicks had outgrown the space.
