I had my 10 day old ducklings (4 of them) with their gosling buddies outside today, I was standing nearby when a hawk swooped in and grabbed one of my girl ducklings and flew off with her. I hollered at the hawk, not sure what I was hoping to accomplish with that but I guess it worked cause it dropped the duckling, and she came running back over to me. I picked her up and her back behind her wing was bloody.... I gathered everyone up and brought them inside. Wrapped my girl in a towel and loved on her for awhile before I cleaned her up, she has one talon wound....from what I can see under all her fluff its a fairly superficial wound, got the bleeding stopped and cleaned up and put her in a separate box with 1 of her sisters. I'm not so much concerned with the scratch but she's wobbly one her feet mostly laying down and taking a few steps at a time, I'd say the hawk dropped her from 5-6 feet, I looked at her legs and feet and I don't see any swelling and her legs don't look to be out of place. I'm hoping it's just the shock of he attack and she can pull through, any ideas on what else I can do? She's a Rouen duck and 10 days old, I really hope I don't lose her!!!
