Hey everyone!

I have a real strange situation going on with one of my pullets, Rose. She's a Lavender Orpington just about to turn 10 months old. She was my first to start laying ...sometime January, and is my only brown egg layer in my flock. She was laying very consistently till about mid March, when she started to act a little strange. She had pale comb, not as active as the other hens, barely eating, had diarrhea, and would keep to herself. I noticed her behavior a day before my husband and I were leaving on a 10 day trip to the west coast. ( go figure!!) I ended up bringing her to a friends house who has experience with chickens, (I didn't want to leave her in the hands of the house sitter) and we figured that she likely had coccidiosis. My friend ended up treating her with Corrid, and by the end of the trip she was doing much better, and had even laid an egg at my friends house before I took her home. She was well received back at home by the rest of the flock. However, she never started laying again. I figured with all the back and forth, it would take her sometime to start laying again, but its been over 2 months, and we haven't gotten a single egg from her!

She's a very healthy chicken now. I've checked her over multiple times for mites. Her comb looks good. Her behavior is normal. Poops are great and normal colored. She even goes to sit in a nest box for a bit everyday. But no eggs!! I'm really confused!!! Anyone had anything like this happen before or know what the problem could be?

I feed them a very high quality feed. They also have oyster shell and grit provided, even though the feed has plenty of calcium in it. Most days, they are able to free range over our 2 acre yard. I don't give them a ton of treats. Usually just a handful of mealworms when I need to get the flock back into the run or occasionally some berries or vegetables. Everyone else lays just fine (with the recent exception of two pullets that went broody and am in the process of trying to break). I have 5 pullets and one cockerel. All the same age.

The cockerel is also a Lavender Orpington, and is very taken by Rose. Has been since they were little chicks. He never lets her out of his sight. The only thing I can think of is that she tends to be the most targeted by the cockerel of all the girls, but she doesn't seem to fight it, and he seems relatively gentle with her. Doesn't pull out her feathers like he can sometimes with the others.

If you need any other info please ask!! Thank you in advance!

Could be she has a hidden stash of eggs. In my experience with Orpingtons the are consistent layers and also inconsistent layers. Often they will lay on a regular basis for months than they will completely stop for a few months. Others continue on. Each is different. Lavender Orpingtons are bred for color too so often production isn't a trait selected for.

So if you find no hidden nests than it just may be what she does. Some of my hens lay well until temperatures start to rise than they quit until it cools in the fall.

Butt check...then maybe confinement.

Free range birds sometimes need to be 'trained'(or re-trained) to lay in the coop nests, especially new layers. Leaving them locked in the coop for a week or so can help 'home' them to lay in the coop nests. Fake eggs/golf balls in the nests can help 'show' them were to lay. They can be confined to coop and maybe run 24/7 for a few days to a week, provided you have adequate space and ventilation, or confine them at least until mid to late afternoon. You help them create a new habit and they will usually stick with it. ..at least for a good while, then repeat as necessary.
