I was just wondering if this is normal. She's been laying well for a few months.
The girl in the background is supposed to be a purebred Americauna, but she's huge and lays a brown egg!
I've gotten my new chicks from a different breeder this time. I've had a lot of problems with the batch of chicks I got last year. only 3/12 made it, and 2/3 don't seem to conform! I love them anyway, and it doesn't really matter if they don't conform, but I didn't get what I thought I was going to.

what a beautiful girl! Yes, there are 3 types of combs I read a single comb (like the one in the back) a rose comb and a pea comb all normal

Thanks

That's good to know! I thought they were all supposed to have a comb. So I guess 2/3 conform.

Agreed. And the "ameraucana" should have a pea comb, not a single comb. Oh well, they are still beautiful and they likely still lay

I've never seen a RIR without a comb either. Is it possible she could just be a late bloomer, or are they completely full grown at 10 months? It doesn't really matter anyway, I just thought it was strange. I've been waiting for it to come in, but I think that's just how she looks.
I was a little dissapointed when my 'Americauna' layed a brown egg, but I really like the way she turned out despite not conforming to the breed standard. She gives me a nice big brown egg everyday, and is super friendly. I just wont be including her in the breeding program. I got some really nice Ameracauna chicks from a different breeder and they look like true Ameracaunas.

She does have ridges. Maybe she is part buck eye. It sucks that I paid the pure bred price for them. She probably saw that I was inexperienced and I wouldn't know the difference. It's really hard to tell when they are chicks anyway. I will never buy from her again. Losing almost all my birds was heart breaking, and now the ones that survived don't conform. We live in a small province and bird people talk to eachother. I just don't understand why someone would lie about their chicks. Don't get me wrong..I do love my birds!!
