Who thinks this is a little to small for a run and coop in one? I have 4 ladies who are getting a new home. Looking at a 12x5 but then maybe 10x5 and now might have to cut it down again. I really do not want to go 8x5 but if worse comes to worse I might have to until I can build a bigger one later on. They will get to free range but just not all the time.

TIA!

You can get away with that but barely, and that's Ok as long as you don't go on some guilt trip and expand, but remember this you probably won't be able to add any more birds to that pen.

Well they will be able to free range just not all the time. I work most of the day and my better half works 2 shifts so for about 4 hours they will be out until I get home.

As for more birds well until we move out into the country 4 city birds will have to do.

If it's a fixed coop that doesn't move then go with as much space as you can manage with ten square feet per bird minimum in my opinion. For a tractor that is moved every day or at least every other day I use five square feet per mature large fowl in mine.
