Our 10 sapphire gem chicks are growing up and are doing very well. It’s a nice, coherent group Of happy little birds. They seem to be pretty smart and predator conscious.
One is different though. Mostly unaware of her surroundings, always late to follow the flock, always oblivious of anything around her. I think she’s the little bird brain of the group.
It’s so fun to see all the different personalities develop. The cuddly one, the adventurous one, the curious one, the very very smart one, the rebellious one, the mean little heffer, the oblivious one, the one you hardly notice in the background, the flighty one, the brave one. It’s a joy watching them.

You found "Special Ethel"? We all have one in our flock. Mine is lucky she was a hatchery chick because I think if she was hatched in the wild, she'd have been eaten by now. We named ours Special Ethel. Having the flock wouldn't be the same without her.

Oh, what a wonderful name. Can I steal it?

Of course! She blesses many flocks with her presence, it’s only fitting her name is there too!

Thank you. I immediately went out and called her Special Ethel. Of course I first had to find her again.
