Hello everyone,
I have a 10 week old chicken that I am starting to suspect has some respiratory issues. She is eating and drinking normally, is alert, interested in being held, but has a much different voice than my other chickens. She does seem more slender than the others, too. I can't seem to successfully upload a video of her here to show the noise I'm referring to, but her quiet clucks are a bit wet sounding. The other chickens sound very normal, but she is a bit throaty. When I hold her up to my ear I do not hear wheezing in her chest. Am I being paranoid and some chickens just sound like an old Hollywood starlet? I don't want to overlook an illness and have it get worse.
Possibly worthy of note: they have reached the age where they are all being a lot more vocal and starting to establish a pecking order. Because of this I can't tell if this is just her voice and I'm noticing it now because she's being more vocal, or if this is a new development.
The photo is of her (ameracauna) next to her sibling (barred rock) to show her size. They are exactly the same age and she appears to have the illusion of a waist where the other chickens do not. I don't think she's necessarily lost weight, but I do think she's gaining slower than her siblings.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
