Could one of my little boy bantams already be trying to crow at 10 weeks old? For a few days when I would take the dog out in the mornings, I thought I had ... I didn't even know what, like an angry raccoon or other forest critter hanging out near the coops, making bizarre screeching sounds. Then this morning, I realized that it was a sound coming from the coop itself, and it's not like any chicken sound I've heard before. The only thing I can think is that it's the start-up noises by a little guy who is trying to crow, but they seem much too young for that! My full-size rooster (a spring baby like these ones) didn't crow till September the year we had him.

I’ve heard of cockerels trying to crow as early as 2 weeks old.
Huh! I had no idea. I will say that this particular little one needs a lot more practice before he sounds like a proper rooster - for now, he sounds a lot like a barn owl.

I've got four Sebrights, currently six weeks old headed for seven weeks. Two are crowing now, if you can call it that. They try! It sounds like a squeaky hinge. One started to crow at four weeks, the other at five weeks. The first one crows in the morning usually, the second one crows at night usually. It's hilarious to watch.

My bantam Cochin, Frodo, crowed the first time at 4 weeks!
I knew it was a crow because he stretched that neck out as far as he could lol!
I went out to the brooder a couple of times to try and catch it on video.
I got it a week later and it was so funny and squeaky!

I had a seven week old Buff Orpington full on crowing. He was so proud of himself.
