Hey guys,

Yet another newbie trying to sex my barred rocks that I hatched myself.
I've read everything online about sexing but Im still unsure about what they are (fingers crossed female).
If anyone could help it would be amazing!
The slightly smaller one had an infection when it was younger and has spent the rest of her/his life trying to catch up in size (so dont base judgements on their size)

Thanks in advance :)

I have only had a few barred varieties but in my limited experience the more white barring like these two have are Roos.
as far as age, I dont know if at 10 weeks they should have combs and wattles like they do but its a red flag to me.

The smaller one in front definitely has male feather coloring. But he still doesn't have much comb and wattles at ten weeks, so that is odd.

The one in back looks to be a pullet. But she still has pretty thick white bars, which is probably just from hatchery grade breeding I suspect, because if these two are from the same line then the smaller one is obviously twice as white.

How much photo flash did you use? Is it factoring into the color of the bird in front?

No, those aren't very developed combs for BR's at 10 weeks...males usually have much more, while yet again, females generally have much less still.

Color in the photo would indicate male front, possibly female back.

I'll go with male front, female back for right now...but I wouldn't call it yet. Let these 2 develop more to see what's happening.

One trick you can try is shine a flashlight on them at night. The hackles will glow sharply for the males, with stripes of bright bouncing off the shafts on the hackles and any saddles developing while the females will have a general dull glow on healthy feathers.

There was no flash on when I took the photo.
I shone the light on them and I didn't 'see' anything. May be just my untrained eyes though.
It's the comb and wattle that is throwing me off. Another chick I have (6weeks different breed) has a bigger and redder comb already.
It seems every time I've tried to sex them based on things I read, they change gender lol.
Thanks everyone :)

Hey guys,
So here is an updated photo of my birds. I feel that the 1 pullet and 1 roo was correct.
Just wanted to check again as I am about to sell them off and need to be sure of their genders :

Thanks
