Hello all, I have a little one here who seems to miss the food whenever she pecks at it. shell either go too high or too low and if you try to readjust so she can attempt again she just follows lower and lower then gives up for a second then tries again. She has normal poop, comb looks normal, and her crop feels like its got food in it so I know shes eating. We do have food out all day and she seems to be able to eat the crumbles because even if she misses there's still food where she aimed. She is spunky and running around playing with her brood mates and scratches and forages for food (even though she misses the thing she was after). She is less "dense" and feels lighter than the sapphire gem who is about her size but they are different breeds so I am not sure if I should be comparing them. She is the only Orpington (Ophelia) we have and this is the first time we have had one. I have only seen this behavior in 1 other chicken I had she was a Cornish cross but she ended up figuring it out after the got tired of her brood mates stealing all the treats haha. Yes I now know to do my research before picking chicks as I didn't know I'd gotten a one (or really anything about them) and was devastated when we lost her. She did have a wonderful life and had a sweet personality and absolutely adored my bf and would only come running when she heard his voice and he was the only one shed let hold her. Anywho should I be worried about Ms. ophelia or will she be ok as long as theres food for her to eat?

any help would be appreciated and I will add pictures later. Thank you all in advance!!

It’s normal. Chickens will often peck around a piece of food. It’s like when children play with their food with their hands, but aren’t eating it.

Thank you for responding! I didnt know they do that haha she is a little quirky girl just wanted to make sure it wasnt anything more serious!!!
