I hope I’m doing all the right things in this hot weather. My 4 7week old pullets, buff Orpington, 2 Barred Rocks and and an Easter egger are in a good size pen with a coop. The pen gets intense sun in the afternoon for a couple of hours a day. Though they always have some shade, I go the check on them and they had their beans open, panting. I sprayed them with a squirt bottle to cool them down(they were not happy about that) added ice and hydration powder to the their water and gave watermelon treats. Is there anything else I can do to help them though this hot spell. We are having a heat wave for about 5 days in a row. I’m a bit worried about their well being.

I like to spray down areas of the ground with water, and have shallow water dishes for them to stand in. Using tarps to block the sun would help a lot too. Also, instead of just spraying them putting them in a bucket filled with water, for like 10 seconds, would be fine too. With that heat you don't have to worry about them getting too wet and getting chilled.
Everything else you're doing is great!

I have a big rubber bowl that I fill with ice water. When I see one panting I go and set it in the water. After several times of doing this they figured out to do it on there own!

Thank you for the information. I will provide frozen treats and provide a water source to have them cool down. I will add some additional shade. I’m so grateful for this site.
