Our run is going to be 25x25ft, (100 sq. ft.) and we will have roughly 20 chickens in it, and 2 ducks. Is this run about the right size?
I also want to let them free range when we are outside, but I am worried about them hopping the 4 1/2 ft fence to the neighbors yard. Not sure how the neighbors dogs would react to this. Is there anything I can do to make sure they don't hop the fence?

25 x 25 is 625 sq. ft which is more than enough room for the number of chickens you'll have in there.

As far as hopping the fence. I don't think there's much you can do beside clipping their wings to keep them from flying.

Wow I feel stupid and now that you say that I am thinking I knew that... 100 ft would be the area. Sorry I had a brain fart.
Glad it's big enough though!

How fast will they demolish the grass you think?

LOL! I do stuff like that all the time. It makes us human. Being perfect would be such a burden!

I hope someone answers about how to keep the chickens within a fenced area. Don't know if there's really a cure for that.

I decided to keep a rooster because I read that helps keep them not to far from the coop but I don't know how true that is...
They are 8 weeks, can I clip their wings now?

Oh yes I had one other question; my coop is about 6 feet tall and it has roosts up at the top. Will the chickens be able to get up there with clipped wings?
