This is more of an informational post for those wondering if high temperature spikes kill embryos.

Let me preface by saying I am a total newbie. This is my first time incubating eggs outside of an embryology class and I am using a home made incubator.

I am also using eggs that were shipped from Texas to Maryland.

I had one temperature spike of 111 (less than an hour) on day 2 when the house got hot. I ordered a Zoo Med Reptitemp Thermostat. On day 5, there was a spike to 108 sometime between the hours of 10:30 pm and 4 am. I thought for sure they were done. I candled and pulled what I thought were two clears and a blood ring. (One of the clears wasn't actually clear :-() The thermostat came later that day.

Here we are on day 11 and 9 out of 10 embryos that went through the 108 spike and are still alive and kicking!

That thermostat is working wonderfully. (Why oh why did I think I could manually control temp? No clue. Noob probs)

I know there is that saying about not counting your chickens before they hatch, but I am getting excited! Hopefully I will have to come up with 9 names synonymous to Rocky. The rooster I keep will be named Stallone for sure.
