11/2 week old chicks

A week ago we successfully hatched 2 chicks, each a day apart. A week has passed and 1 chick is 4Xs larger than the second chick. Is this a good sign that the larger one is a rooster ? I do not know which chick hatched 1st.

Not necessarily. The other one could just be slower in developing. My cockerel chicks were actually smaller than their brood mates.

Size doesn't necessarily mean you've got a rooster. Are the two chicks the same breed? Do you know which breeds they are?

It's often hard to tell whether a chick is male or female for a while. Signs to look at that indicate a male would be thicker legs, sometimes they're slower to feather, getting wing feathers but keeping their body fuzz longer than the female chicks, bigger combs and wattles.....

You may be right though......Time will tell.

They are both Buckeye chicks. The smaller one of the two is VERY vocal. Seems to want to make sure we know it is there. To the two chicks born last week, we have added 24 more Buckeye chicks that we also hatched on Monday in our Little Giant styrafoam incubator with turner. We kept them seperate for about 48 hrs. but have since combined all of them. We were worried that the one very large week old chick would rule the newest ones, but it is doing well. The biggest problem is that it wants to fly out of the box and comes down on top of the others. The smaller, louder chick that is a week old is only a little larger than the newest ones. Both of the two older chicks are growing their feathers.

Maybe your smaller one is the roo :/

With my barred rock chicks, the boys are smaller than the girls right now.
