Hello, new to the forum. We over did it and acquired 11 chicks:

2 assorted bantams (straight run)
2 Ayem Cemani (straight run)
2 Rhode Island Red (supposed pulley)
1 frizzle (straight run)
1 olive egger (straight run)
3 mystery breeds

Any help sexing or identifying would be helpful. We are pretty confident the Ayem Cemanis are cockerels. And to be honest most seem like cockerels to us haha.

It is hard to see some of them in the pictures, I’ll try to get some better shots.

Thanks

As of right now they all seem to be pullets except maybe the Ayam Cemani's. I am not sure about them. Their black comb makes it harder to tell since it won't turn red early on like pink combs. I would update again around 13 weeks old since that's about the time when male specific feathering starts to show up.
This was my reaction exactly.

I'm still getting the hang of telling the males and females apart. I go onto these threads, decide what I'm looking at, and then come back layer to see if I was at least close.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll keep everyone posted as they age. One of the Ayam Cemani’s pops around like he’s a big shot, hoping the other one is a pullet.

Haha me too! It's hard because sometimes you get fast maturing hens or slow maturing roosters too. This year I had a mixed breed chick that was super confusing. Small single comb but was very red at 8 weeks of age. Pretty much everyone said she was a rooster but she turned out to be a pretty hen.

I'm not great with pea combed birds, esp EEs. Still working on those.

I have an OE who developed a comb very quickly. Folks on here were "leaning cockerel," but she's def a she. Had me fooled for the longest time.

And don't get me started on Silkies! I have one I was 100% sure was a cockerel up until the day she laid an egg. She's not a high quality specimen, which made it harder. But she's awesome. Just kinda weird looking.
