My local Tractor Supply stopped stocking chicks a few weeks ago, so I asked a friend to check his Tractor Supply (2.5 hours away from me) for bantams.
This friend has other birds (geese, turkeys, ducks) but not chickens, so I thought he'd be immune to chicken math . . . boy was I wrong! He fell victim to Tractor Supply's $1 chick sale.
He got:
8 Black Sex-Links
3 Cinnamon Queens (TSCs version of Red Sex-Links) I have two of the darker ones and one lighter one
7 Straight Run Assorted Bantams which includes:
3 Yellow Bantams (two have frizzled feathers and feathered legs, one is not frizzled and has naked legs)
2 Buff bantams: Both have frizzle feathers and feathered legs.
2 Grey (Blue) Bantams: these two are super small, even compared to the other bantams of the same age, strong and active, just micro chicks
Since Hover's Hatchery only carries a few bantams I hoping to get help figuring which ones I have. The frizzled feathers are throwing me off since they don't seem to (intentionally) carry any 'frizzle' bantams. I remember reading that the frizzle gene is a recessive gene and can pop up in just about any breed, so that could be the case here.
Thoughts?
