Okay so the duckies were out for some free range time before going inside for the night...this is when I give them their dinner snack of greens each day. Last night I cut up 2 tomatoes into eighths, put them on a plate and went to sit down on the steps of the deck and wait for them to see the "Snack Plate".

Well they finally saw the snack plate, came running (which is funny in and of itself), snatched pieces off the plate and the chaos erupted. Everyone wanted the piece that someone else had instead of their own...so there were about 6 pieces laying on the ground and someone running with a piece in their bill being chased by someone else.

All of them strolled over to their pool for water

All was well until they realized the tomato was gone...what to do now? We go get the lady who brings the tomatoes....everyone THIS WAY....CHARGE!

They demanded to see the snack plate for themselves, not believing me when I said "No more"

When it was found to be empty...I was promptly dismissed

ah well..so much for the life of a duckie mama...we are not needed, merely a convenient means to a snack plate.

They are so cute. I love to watch mine. They are so funny when they decide on a destination, then run as fast as their little legs will carry them to that spot.

BTW, what kind is the brown one in the 2nd pic all the way on the left? I have two that are almost that color, but can't figure out what breed they might be. They are still young, but have most of their feathers. I was hoping they were Welsh Harlequins when I got them. They came from a hatchery so I figured they are most likely mixed.

I hope this helps

this is a good shot of Lilly, one of the GWH ducks (I have 2 ducks and 4 drakes)

They are such characters! Mine were freakin this morning because they couldn't understand why they couldn't swallow the sugar snap peas in one bite.. they were chasing each other around and having a ball .. so entertaining!

Judging by your description, I think my two are GWH ducks, I hope. I picked ones with gray bills since my other WH duck has a gray bill and the WH drake has an orange bill. I think my theory will hold up as long as the two young ones are in the WH family.

Thanks for posting your pics and labeling them, it really helped.

Well from what I understand...as day old you can tell the difference by the males having darker bills that females...but they all go through the gray and greenish stage...

For mine the distinguishing was easy 2 quack and clearly are different in appearance than the four. The four males are clearly hooded with the darker color and the feather on the wings and back are clearly different from the two quackers.

Maybe this will help....the one on the right chasing is a GWH drake..notice the dark hood
