You could check the vent of the RIR and also feel the spaces between her tail and pelvis, and between the bones of her pelvis, to see if she is laying or not... not sure if she is a pet, or if you would cull her if she is not laying, but at any rate it can be good info to have... esp. if you are looking for an egg stash!
I have checked her pelvis and she is 2-3 fingers spread just like the others. She also squats when I go near her.
I've seen her do 'the song' on occasion but really none of our girls sing when they lay, they like to tease us I think.
I will surely give her some time here as we investigate this further. My husband not think twice about eliminating those who don't pull their weight.
They are friendly worker/pets here for us. I care for them like a pet, but not as attached as if she were a puppy. Of course, it has been a year. I may get more attached to them the longer they are with us... I don't know.
